Valentine’s Day is a holiday dedicated to the concept of “love.” But the typical understanding of love is focused on romance, while the Scripture is focused on “agape” love, a love that sacrifices for others. As Scripture says in John 15:13, “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for ones friends.”
How do we balance a God who loves with abandon, yet promises wrath upon those who disobey? In this sermon, Dan explores a “God who loves recklessly” with a God that must require our obedience – and, when necessary, display His wrath.
In today’s sermon, Dan looks at the challenges associated with pursuing a “we get what we earn” mentality in our spiritual lives. Looking at the parable of the workers in the vineyard as told in Matthew 20:1-16, Dan looks at our earthly focus on what is “fair.” In truth, God doesn’t love us because we’ve “earned” it.
