A Heart of Dedication

In the lesson this week, Mike takes a look at God’s wisdom in raising children and dedicating them to Him.

Children are God’s gift; they are to be protected.

They are to be instructed in God’s wisdom.

They are to be disciplined, as God disciplines His sons (Hebrews 12:7).

Our vision for our children should be God’s vision for them, not our vision, as we prepare them to live lives of obedience to Him.

In her deep anguish Hannah prayed to the Lord, weeping bitterly. And she made a vow, saying, “Lord Almighty, if you will only look on your servant’s misery and remember me, and not forget your servant but give her a son, then I will give him to the Lord for all the days of his life, and no razor will ever be used on his head.”

“I prayed for this child, and the Lord has granted me what I asked of him. So now I give him to the Lord. For his whole life he will be given over to the Lord.” And he worshiped the Lord there.
1 Samuel 1:10-11, 27-28 (NIV)

Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a reward from him.
Children born to a young man are like arrows in a warrior’s hands.
How joyful is the man whose quiver is full of them!
He will not be put to shame when he confronts his accusers at the city gates.
Psalm 127:3-5 (NLT)

Direct your children onto the right path, and when they are older, they will not leave it.
Proverbs 22:6 (NLT)
