Attitudes of the Heart: A Searching Heart

This is the 3rd lesson in this series — Attitudes of the Heart.

How do we prepare our hearts to be what God has called us to be? We need to be in the Word every day. As Jesus said in response to each of Satan’s temptations: “It is written.”

“If God has spoken, listen! If God has recorded his words in a Book, search its pages with a believing heart. If you do not accept it as God’s inspired word, I cannot invite you to pay any particular attention to it; but if you regard it as the Book of God, I charge you, as I shall meet you at the judgement seat of Christ, study the Bible daily. Treat not the Eternal God with disrespect, but delight in His Word.”

Charles Spurgeon (1834-1892)

In this lesson, Mike communicates the value — and the necessity — of your commitment to God’s Word. Simply reading the Word will provide some impact, but storing God’s Word in your heart enables you to win the battles that life presents.

I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands. I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.

Psalm 119:10-11 (NIV)

As soon as it was night, the believers sent Paul and Silas away to Berea. On arriving there, they went to the Jewish synagogue. Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true. As a result, many of them believed, as did also a number of prominent Greek women and many Greek men.

Acts 17:10-12 (NIV)
