Dare to Leave the Boat

The speaker this morning is Jim Hoffmeister, an elder at Open Door.

Eleven disciples stayed in the boat.

Only Peter had the courage to jump out and attempt to walk on water…and he didn’t just talk a good game, he got out of the boat!!

What a faith Peter must have possessed. But, as we so often see, doubt crept in to his thoughts – the wind, the waves – and he began to falter.

Even then, his first thought was Jesus: “Lord, save me!”

How about you? Do you feel more comfortable – more safe – in the boat? What keeps you from daring to trust Jesus completely??

“Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.”

“Come,” he said.

Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. 30 But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!”

Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?”
