In this chapter, Paul addresses Timothy as a teacher. He instructs Timothy to stay in Ephesus, where apparently there is a fair amount of conflict. He calls Timothy to address the issues because it is “loving” (verse 5). Is it possible that you’re in a position rife with conflict, and you need to stay?
The issue in chapter 2 is sin -and conflict – and the need for forgiveness. Paul points out that Satan is scheming to disrupt the unity of the Body.
In this lesson, Mike looks at three very specific purposes of the Holy Spirit. The Spirit marks you as a child of God. The Spirit gives life and set you free. The Spirit helps you to pray. The critical question is whether or not our minds are set on earthly things or on “Spirit-ual” things?
Paul, the man who described himself as the very worst of all sinners. The lesson of Paul, as Mike shares in this lesson, is a lesson of hope. As Paul said, “Now I am on trial because of my hope in the fulfillment of God’s promise made to our ancestors (Acts 26:6 NLT).”
The church at Corinth, as Mike says, was “ill-behaved, struggling, and unhealthy.” Clearly, they needed a lot of instruction and a lot of encouragement.
