This is the third lesson in Mike’s series, Overcoming Overload, based on the book of the same name.
Does life ever get to the point of being overwhelming? “Of course,” you answer.
So, where do you go to find rest?
The whole idea of rest, and finding a “sanctuary” in order to enjoy that rest, runs very counter to our 24/7 culture. If your life is full of noise and you are always on the go, when will you find the time to listen to God?
In this excellent lesson, Mike talks about the need for God’s people to find solitude, silence, and stillness in their lives.
“My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one. They are not of the world, even as I am not of it. Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth. As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world. For them I sanctify myself, that they too may be truly sanctified.”
John 17:15-18 (NIV)
“Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left th house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.”
Mark 1:25 (NIV)
“Tremble and do not sin; when you are on your beds, search your hearts and be silent.”
Psalm 4:4 (NIV)
“Be still and know that I am God.”
Psalm 46:10 (NIV)
