Our Incredible Promise

With Mike Baskett away on Christmas break, today’s sermon is provided by Jim Hoffmeister, an elder at OpenDoor.

People make a lot of promises.

Some are fulfilled. Others, perhaps, not so much.

But when God promises something, fulfillment is guaranteed. Absolute. Unequivocal. When God says it, it is done.

At this time of year, people celebrate the birth of Jesus, which fulfills one promise and portends yet another. It is that second promise, outlined in Romans 8, that Jim explores in this sermon.

God is not human, that he should lie,
not a human being, that he should change his mind.
Does he speak and then not act?
Does he promise and not fulfill?
